Overview
Children love the ocean and images of rolling waves and gentle tides can be very relaxing for a child. If the ocean is one of your child's favorite places you might want to consider painting an ocean mural on the bedroom wall of your child's room. This whimsical decoration can inspire creativity in both parent and child alike. Perhaps this can be undertaken as a family project or saved as a special surprise for a rainy day. Painting water effects on your child's walls can be done with a few steps, some paint and a sense of fun and imagination.
Step 1
Tape the corners of the walls you don't want to paint with painter's tape. Tape the crown molding or ceiling corner as well as the floor line. Put down newspaper or tarp over the floor. Mix the half gallon of blue and half gallon of white paint to create sky blue. Apply this to the wall with a roller.

Step 2
Let the paint dry. Trace the pattern of waves on the wall with a pencil. Do this by drawing four large curls that extend half way up your wall. Use the picture at the beginning of the article as a reference. Mix a half gallon blue and half gallon green to create a "sea green" color. Add 2 cups of white to this to lighten the color. Paint this on the sea area of the wall using a 4-inch wide wall brush.
Step 3
Mix 1 cup of sea green paint into 2 cups of white paint to make a "sea foam" color. Dip your sponge in this color but try not to get the sponge too wet. Lightly dab the sponge across the top of the wave curls to create the effect of sea foam.
-
Step 4
Add accents by painting the back of the wave with solid blue. Use the 1-inch wide trim brush to trace the curl of the wave and be careful not to paint over the sea foam area.
-
Step 5
Wash out your sponge and dip the sponge in the white paint. Dab the sponge over the highest section of the sky to create clouds.
